Over the course of three weekly, two-hour sessions, you will engage in a blend of presentations, interactive discussions, and breakout room collaborations. Each session is crafted to provide you with application-based education focused on the leadership role within the NPD Practice Model framework. Engage in interactive learning, develop effective communication skills, and learn to articulate the value of NPD practice and your NPD role in alignment with organizational goals. Benefit from coaching in breakout sessions led by Dr. Walker and NPD experts, addressing your real-world challenges.

You'll explore NPD leadership competencies and ways to demonstrate them in each session by leveraging guidance from key points in the Nursing Professional Development: Scope & Standards of Practice (4th ed.) and Leadership in Nursing Professional Development: An Organization and System Focus (2nd ed.). Join us to deepen your leadership expertise and drive meaningful change in your practice.

Session Overview

Session 1 – The Leader Within

Discover the leadership qualities and essential characteristics that define both formal and informal leaders in nursing professional development (NPD). In this session, you’ll explore leadership competencies and how key NPD standards apply to your daily work. Through case studies, you’ll see these concepts in action and gain practical insights to enhance your influence and effectiveness as an NPD practitioner. Robust discussions will provide space to clarify how these strategies can work for you.

Session 2 – Generating Your Value

Learn how to position your NPD role as a key driver of organizational success. In this session, you’ll uncover strategies to align your work with your organization’s mission, vision, and strategic goals, making your contributions more visible and impactful. You’ll also gain practical tools for planning, measuring outcomes, and demonstrating ROI for your initiatives, so you can clearly show how your work benefits the organization. Real-life case studies will help solidify how you can use these strategies in your own environment.

Session 3 – Demonstrating Your Value

Focused on the business principles of NPD, this session will give you the tools to not only do great work but to make sure everyone knows the value you bring to the table. You’ll learn how to effectively communicate your impact using strategies that clearly demonstrate the outcomes of your NPD work and its impact on your organization. You’ll walk away confident with new business savvy and tools to present your achievements to stakeholders, putting these actions into practice.

Earn Up to 6 NCPD Contact Hours

Target Audience: Competent-level NPD leaders in formal and informal leadership roles.

Outcome: 90% of participants will identify at least one expected change or enhancement of their practice in the NPD role of leader based on knowledge gained from this workshop.

Continuing Education: Association for Nursing Professional Development is accredited with distinction as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Contact Hours: Earn up to 6.0 NCPD credit hours by participating in all sessions. Contact hours are awarded commensurate with participation of each session; 2.0 contact hours are awarded for each session attended in its entirety.
