JNPD Call for Manuscripts: Special Issue on the Unique Role of the NPD (Nursing Professional Development) Practitioner

I am ecstatic to share the following communication from—my fellow Journal for Nurses in Professional Development (JNPD) Board member—Kelly Gallagher, MSN, RN, NPD-BC, NEA-BC:
We are pleased to announce a call for manuscripts for a special issue that will be published in the Journal for Nurses in Professional Development (JNPD) in September/October 2025, coinciding with Nursing Professional Development (NPD) week. The purpose of this special issue is to highlight the unique role of the NPD practitioner and explore their contributions to the field of nursing professional development and nursing.
We invite authors to submit manuscript proposals exploring your unique NPD practitioner role across the continuum using the NPD Scope & Standards of Practice, 4th Ed. (2022) or NPD Practice Model as a framework.
Submission Guidelines:
- Manuscript proposals should be a maximum of two pages, double-spaced, including references, tables, and figures.
- NPD certification preferred for primary author.
- Manuscripts published or under consideration for publication elsewhere will not be considered.
- Submit your manuscript proposals to Kelly.Gallagher@vizientinc.com by Feb. 14, 2025, in PDF format. Please note that acceptance is not guaranteed, as the editorial board will conduct a thorough review.
- Authors selected for inclusion in the special issue will be expected to submit a final manuscript, no more than 10 double-spaced pages, including references, tables, and figures.
Submit manuscript proposals to Special Issue Guest Editor, Kelly Gallagher, at Kelly.Gallagher@vizientinc.com no later than Feb. 14, 2025. Authors will be notified of the manuscript's eligibility for issue selection by Feb. 28, 2025. Selected authors are to submit final manuscripts by May 23, 2025.

Melanie Rainford is a board-certified nurse leader, with over 17 years of clinical nursing and professional development experience—specializing in the design, implementation, and evaluation of professional development initiatives, projects, and programs.
In 2017, Ms. Rainford received the ANPD Change Agent Award, is a contributing author to the NPD Scope & Standards of Practice, 4th Edition, and authored the change agent chapter of the Core Curriculum for Nursing Professional Development, 6th Edition. She is currently a Senior NPD Specialist in Education & Resources at the American Nurses Enterprise—parent brand of the American Nurses Association (ANA), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), and American Nurses Foundation (ANF)—overseeing and influencing professional development products and services in alignment with programmatic initiatives and the organization’s strategic plan.
Kelly A. Gallagher, MSN, RN, NPD-BC, NEA-BC
Editorial Board Member, ANPD; Senior Director, Nursing Programs, Vizient® Inc
Kelly Gallagher is the senior director of nursing programs at Vizient® Inc. working on the nurse residency program team. Her role focuses on operations and thought leadership of the Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program™. Prior to this role, Ms. Gallagher was the director of the nurse residency program at Penn Medicine in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. In this role, Ms. Gallagher provided oversight and strategic leadership for over seven hundred newly licensed nurses hired across Penn Medicine at the health system level.
Ms. Gallagher received her BSN from Villanova University and MSN in nursing and health care administration from the University of Pennsylvania. She holds a certificate in human resource management from the Wharton School and is Board Certified in nursing professional development (NPD-BC) and nurse executive advanced (NEA-BC). Ms. Gallagher has published and presented nationally on nurse residency programs and evidence-based practice. She also serves as a team leader for nurse residency program accreditation for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
